Asikana Farms in the Aira District, West Welega region is a relatively new enterprise, starting in roughly 2018, and made a splash when it shipped its first container of natural (dry) process coffee arond 2020. Its genesis as a powerhouse was innocent enough...a production manager named Mengistu did an internship in Tepic, Mexico with San Cristobal Coffee Importers in order to better understand the FincaLab turnkey coffee management and bar coding system which had shown dramatically positive results across the Grupo Terruno Nayarita organic- and Bird Friendly-certified offerings. Mengitsu would later return to Asikana and convert manuals into local Amharic language and implement the strict process controls which defined their Mexican counerpart coffees. West Welega is a very arid region, not unlike the fabled Harar district, and the lack of water leads to solely natural (dry) process production.

Our first offering from Asikana, Gidami Kamba, is "tree-dried"...a very specific type of "processing" where the ripe cherry is allowed to partially dry on the branch before being hand-harvested. Farms range in elevation from 1450-1750 meters. As with San Cristobal's Terruno Nayarita Mexican enterprise, Asikana's coffees are fully traceable and bar coded for utmost transparency...as of now still the only coffees accorded such recognition in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee! Sublime pourover notes of black tea, chocolate and tropical fruits.
